Breaking News: Kansas City Chiefs star was detained in Texas on suspicion of domestic abuse.
A young player for the Kansas City Chiefs was detained in Texas on Friday and is now being charged with domestic abuse.
Xavier Worthy, age 21, was taken into custody in Georgetown, Texas, on March 7, 2025, according to the jail log of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
Worthy is charged with “ASSAULT FAM/HOUSE MEM IMPEDE BREATH/CIRCULAT,” a third-degree felony assault offense under Texas law.
The term “is committed by intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the person’s blood by applying pressure to the person’s throat or neck or by blocking the person’s nose or mouth.” It particularly relates to attack on a family member or household member.
Worthy plays for the Chiefs as a wide receiver. Worthy was chosen with the 28th choice in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he caught 59 passes for 638 yards, gained 104 running yards, and scored nine touchdowns.
With a team-high 19 catches for 287 yards and three touchdowns in the Chiefs’ three postseason games, he emerged as Kansas City’s top receiver.
“We are aware and gathering information,” said a terse statement from the Chiefs that NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero shared on X.
