Even though his passing has had a significant impact and the atmosphere is depressing, we hope that the brightness of his memories will drive out the shadow of his absence.

On July 29, 1959, Sykes was born in Reading, Berkshire.

His family lived in Ibiza for three years before moving back before Sykes reached adolescence and developed a guitar obsession.

Ritchie Blackmore and Jimmy Page were among the guitarists he mentioned as inspirations.

Following the family’s relocation to Blackpool, Johnny joined his first band, Street Fighter.

After that, Sykes joined renowned studio guitarists Tony Franklin and Carmine Appice to form the band Blue Murder.

Both their 1989 self-titled debut and 1993’s Nothin’ But Trouble, which was released following Franklin and Appice’s exits, failed. After that, Sykes recorded four studio albums and started a solo career.

“I loved him like a brother,” Appice remarked in remembrance.

In 1989, Sykes wed Jennifer Brooks Sykes. In 1999, they got divorced. His three sons, Sean, John Jr., and James, survive him.
