Breaking news: The Yankees demote two of their best prospects, make the next round of roster cuts during spring training.

The New York Yankees sent outfielder Brennen Davis to minor-league camp along with pitchers Sean Boyle, Chase Hampton (who is out for the season), Cristian Hernandez, Kevin Stevens, and Jayvien Sandridge in their first round of roster cuts during spring training over the weekend.
Pitcher Cam Schlittler and infielder Roderick Arias were sent down on Monday, adding two more to that group. Since neither is close to making their Major League debuts and 2025 is probably going to be a significant season for their growth, it’s all procedural.
However, it’s crucial to remember that both were operating well at the beginning of the spring. Schlittler pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up just one run on two hits and four walks while striking out five, while Arias was 3-for-7 with a double and a run scored. Not bad for a few men who are still figuring things out within the company.
Fans should keep an eye on every selection as the roster narrows to the 26 players headed north so they can follow the rising stars all season long. After making waves at High-A the previous season, Schlittler was maybe hastily promoted to Triple-A. Arias, meanwhile, signed as the top international free agent in 2022 and had his first complete professional season.

The Yankees will use their fullest lineup to date as they prepare for their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night. This is the closest thing to an Opening Day bunch we’ve seen, aside from Austin Wells and Jasson Dominguez not playing, and Max Fried is making his Yankees debut.
The Yankees have a lot of tinkering to do over the next two weeks to get their lineup arrangement and starting rotation perfect, especially because Giancarlo Stanton, DJ LeMahieu, Luis Gil, and Scott Effross are probably going to miss the season’s opening and Clarke Schmidt’s health is still uncertain.
All we can hope for is that the injuries will eventually cease so that the depth can make it through the season’s opening stretch. Seeing more of Ben Rice should be beneficial, as will getting a look at Grisham, Dom Smith, Alex Jackson, and Oswald Peraza.
