ESPN: The Detroit Lions select the former No. 2 overall pick as their “best fit.”
To strengthen their pass rush, which finished 2024 with the 10th-lowest number of sacks in the NFL, the Detroit Lions are trying to combine Aidan Hutchinson with another edge rusher. According to ESPN’s Matt Bowen, Chase Young, a former No. 2 overall pick, is most suited for the Lions.
The Significance of It
Drafted second overall in 2022, Hutchinson is a frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year after recording 28.5 sacks in 39 games.
Chase Young is one name that is attracting interest as the Lions look to add another pass rusher.
The tumultuous career of Chase Young
Despite winning Defensive Rookie of the Year and being selected second overall in 2020, Young has suffered from injuries ever since.
He showed glimmers of his old self in 2024, rebounding with 7 sacks and 66 pressures in New Orleans.
Given their need for an edge rusher, ESPN’s Matt Bowen said the Lions were the best option for Young.

Given Young’s potential, he and Hutchinson might form one of the best pass-rushing combinations in the league.
In an attempt to improve Detroit’s defense, Lions general manager Brad Holmes could take a shot on the 25-year-old.
