Allen Returns To The Yankees In A Shocking Trade

According to Maddie Lee, the Chicago Cubs have made headlines again by reaching an agreement on a minor league contract with former New York Yankees outfielder Greg Allen. An invitation to the Cubs’ major league camp is part of the arrangement. Allen, 31, has played in seven big league seasons, although he was exclusively at Triple-A the previous season. Allen is a good runner and fielder, but he is not much of a hitter, and the Cubs already have Kyle Tucker, Ian Happ, and Pete Crow-Armstrong securing their outfield places.

Yankees bring back Greg Allen in deal with Red Sox

Despite only hitting.231 in 828 Major League at-bats, he has 48 stolen bases in 57 tries. With the Cleveland Guardians in 2018, he had his best season, hitting.257 over 265 at bats and recording 21 stolen bases. Although he is unlikely to be on the opening-day roster, he gives AAA Iowa speed and defense, and if the Cubs are struggling with injuries this season, he may see an opportunity to serve as a defensive substitute and pitch-runner.

Solid opportunity here': How Greg Allen could actually help ...

Allen hit three home runs in 58 games and recorded 13 steals in 15 tries while playing for the Yankees Triple-A club in 2024. He is undoubtedly a player to keep an eye on during Cubs Spring Training games since he has the potential to be the first player called up in the event that one of Chicago’s outfielders sustains a long-term injury.
