ESPN news: Uta jazz set to select from the big options

Jaylen Brown, slowly but surely, turned his skeptics into believers

Only four names—Jaylen Brown, Devin Booker, Joel Embiid, and Luka Doncic—will do, according to the Utah Jazz fan base. In a recent poll conducted by Utah Jazz beat reporter Andy Larsen, the majority of fans are only eager to see those four names in Salt Lake City.

Only Embiid, Doncic, Booker, and Brown received more “yes” votes than any other candidate out of the 11 possibilities that fans on Twitter and X had the opportunity to vote for separately. Even then, Embiid only received 47% of the vote in favor of his proposal, falling short of a 50%+ majority.

We’ll have limited options if we allow the fans to choose because they rejected candidates like Kevin Durant, Trae Young, Zion Williamson, and others. Although there is a valid reason not to trade for them and the other players on the list, there is little chance the Jazz will acquire one of the four top choices. Actually, if we’re being practical, Brown and Doncic aren’t. That is to say, there is almost no reason to think that either player will be dealt this summer. Not unless there is an anomaly. Although both players are perfect—they play the ideal position for the club and are the appropriate age for what the Utah Jazz are trying to build—they will be very difficult to get.

Given that the Philadelphia 76ers aren’t going anywhere, Embiid may now be on the move. This offseason, they might attempt to sign Paul George or Jimmy Butler, but neither player is a game changer anymore.

In addition, Embiid is unlikely to want to go to Salt Lake City if he is traded, and given that he would turn 31 the following season and has a history of ailments, the Jazz could want to reject that combination first. In addition to being prone to injuries, he is probably nearing the end of his playing days.

That essentially just leaves Booker, who the fans genuinely desire and who may actually be available this offseason, as the only player who fits the Utah Jazz’s competitive window trajectory, plays a position of need, and isn’t always prone to injuries.

Although the Phoenix Suns have made it known that they will not be transferring anyone, they may still decide to do so. Why not trade Booker or Durant and try to get something back in exchange if they want to leave? In order to acquire Booker, the Jazz would have to put up a lot of effort. Booker would blend in well with the team and star Lauri Markkanen.

While there are other players that might consider a deal, Booker is still the most likely to really get traded for him out of all the guys the fans are rooting for.
