Detroit Lions reportedly hire John Morton for offensive coordinator role

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Detroit Lions have formally appointed John Morton as their new offensive coordinator.

It follows Monday’s claims that Morton was the team’s objective.

Morton, who served as the Denver Broncos’ coordinator of the passing game, joined the Detroit coaching staff in 2022 as a senior offensive assistant to Ben Johnson. Earlier this week, Johnson was announced as the Chicago Bears’ new head coach.

He worked with rookie quarterback Bo Nix in Denver, who had an excellent debut season with a 93.3 passer rating while passing for 3,775 yards and 29 touchdowns.

The other coordinator position is filled by this hiring. After Aaron Glenn resigned to become the head coach of the New York Jets, the organization elevated linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator.
