Aaron Boone looking to stamp Yankee legacy as World Series winner

The New York Yankees will start their 2025 season in Tampa in less than a month. Aaron Boone, the manager of the Yankees, will return to command the team for the eighth season under the most pressure to win a World Series in his career following a humiliating World Series defeat. “But the Yankees only picked up Boone’s option after the World Series appearance last year,” writes Joel Sherman, a baseball journalist for the New York Post. Without winning a title, is he really going to sign another three- or four-year contract?

Boone is in the latter year of a contract that ended up being his second four-year deal. He starts his “walk year” with the early task of demonstrating that the Yankees can make it through the postseason after losing their star hitter, Juan Soto. The Yankees have a winning percentage of.584 after going 1032-603 throughout his tenure. That places Boone sixth in Yankees history overall, but fourth among managers in the Live Ball era in terms of winning percentage.

In the end, he will be evaluated based on the fact that he does not own a World Series Championship. It’s clear that the game has altered since George Steinbrenner arbitrarily fired managers. Hal Steinbrenner, the managing partner who currently leads the team and the Boss’s son, has demonstrated far more patience and landscape knowledge than his father did. Sherman notes that Hal and the rest of the Steinbrenner family have a deep affection for Boone. Additionally, when Yankees fans have taken out their pitchforks and torches to attack Boone, veteran general manager Brian Cashman has defended his manager on several occasions.

You might still argue that the Yankees’ window is about to close. Gerrit Cole will turn 34 in September, while Aaron Judge will turn 33 in April. Since 2009, the Yankees have failed to win a World Series. If the Yankees don’t win it all in 2025, you have to question if the franchise will be patient enough to give Boone another deal.
