Teams waiting on Alex Bregman need to pivot to Nolan Arenado - Viva El Birdos

One of this generation’s top third basemen, Nolan Arenado, is allegedly willing to trade. The Boston Red Sox may try to acquire the superstar as opening day approaches, but the St. Louis Cardinals have not yet found a trade partner for him. Arenado would eventually be added to the Red Sox’s infield, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.

“After exhausting attempts to sign Bregman, the Red Sox pivot to Arenado as the St. Louis Cardinals start to exhibit a bit of desperation with the season approaching,” Rogers said. “Everyone understands that the fit in St. Louis isn’t right anymore. The Cardinals are ready to take on some of the debt because they want great prospects in exchange and aren’t worried about money owing to Arenado. Boston is able to provide that.

Arenado agreed to a $260 million, eight-year contract with the Colorado Rockies. He will become a free agency in 2028 after being dealt to the Cardinals. He has been named an All-Star eight times, a Silver Slugger five times, a Gold Glover ten times, and a Platinum Glover six times. The Red Sox would be able to shift Rafael Devers to first base and feel secure enough to trade Triston Casas in exchange for Arenado. Arenado had a.272 batting average and blasted 16 home runs the previous season.

The Red Sox could be more inclined to accept a bigger share of Arenado’s salary than other suitors. Earlier this winter, the Red Sox participated in the Juan Soto sweepstakes and aren’t afraid to pay. The Red Sox could easily outbid other teams by accepting a larger portion of Arenado’s compensation if the market for him heats up.
Arenado was initially eager to waive his no-trade clause to join six teams, including the Red Sox.
