ESPN: Following a playoff loss, the Lions announced noteworthy news about Jared Goff on Monday.
Following a significant hit from Commanders LB Frankie Luvu, the experienced quarterback for the Lions was not included in the concussion protocol.
The Detroit Lions’ playoff journey came to an abrupt end on Saturday night when they lost to the Washington Commanders 45-31 in the divisional round. Although the No. 1 seed Lions were thought to be the clear favorites to win, quarterback Jared Goff labored and the defense failed to make crucial stops.
The seasoned quarterback completed 23 of 40 throws for 313 yards, three interceptions, a score, and a fumble. Goff last committed four or more turnovers in a game against the Houston Texans in Week 10 (5 interceptions).
The Lions prevailed 26–23 in that game, but they were not as successful on Saturday. Even though the Commanders gave up a lot of yards to second-year running back Jahmyr Gibbs, their defense made things difficult for Goff and the passing game.
Washington’s defense sacked Goff twice and imposed seven quarterback hits in addition to the turnovers.
After Goff threw his first interception in the second quarter, which Commanders safety Quan Martin recovered for a score, Detroit supporters began to worry about his health.
Goff missed several snaps on Detroit’s subsequent offensive drive when Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu struck the veteran quarterback with a brutal hit. While Goff was being examined, Teddy Bridgewater, the backup quarterback, took over.
Although Goff was fortunately able to recover, the starting quarterback’s prospects were not favorable when the collision first occurred.
Following Saturday’s game, Detroit Football Network’s Justin Rogers reported on Monday that the veteran quarterback was not following the concussion protocol.
