ESPN: The Yankees are willing to accept a portion of the $37 million deal to trade the star pitcher.
According to reports, the New York Yankees are attempting to deal Marcus Stroman, their starting pitcher, this summer. With a vesting option in 2026, Stroman is expected to earn slightly more than $18 million in 2025. The option becomes active for an additional $18 million in 2026 if the righty pitches 140 innings or more in 2025. After Stroman failed to make the Yankees’ starting lineup in the 2024 World Series, Max Fried was acquired by New York. The Bronx Bombers’ desire to let go of the gifted righty makes sense.
According to a recent claim by Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees might even consider eating a portion of Stroman’s contract in order to deal him this winter. That could make it possible to relocate him. “The Yankees are still trying to trade Marcus Stroman and are willing to pay down his $18 million salary,” Heyman stated. “The Yankees would have more money to spend on an infielder if they could cut costs there, but don’t expect Nolan Arenado or Alex Bregman. Although trade negotiations involving Luis Arraez of the Padres have been reported, they are thought to be lacking in momentum.
It is difficult to accept that Stroman will not have suitors. Charlie Morton took Corbin Burnes’ spot when the Baltimore Orioles lost him this winter. It would be really deep to include Stroman. Fried and Morton were both lost by the Atlanta Braves, who have yet to find a replacement. If the Yankees can acquire an infielder in exchange, a deal with Atlanta would make a lot of sense.
