CBS Sports: The Buffalo Bills elevate two talented stars for sunday game, including former pro-bowler.
The Broncos didn’t want Kareem Jackson or Jalen Virgil, thus they ended up joining the Buffalo Bills practice squad.
However, the Bills decided to promote the two former Broncos for Sunday’s wild-card matchup in Orchard Park, New York, so you could see both.
When the Broncos released Virgil at the end of the preseason, he decided to conclude his time with Buffalo. His 66-yard touchdown reception from Russell Wilson in a defeat against Tennessee nine games into the 2022 season was the high point of his two complete seasons with Denver. Before sustaining a meniscus injury in a preseason loss to San Francisco, he seemed primed to return to the 53-man roster the following season.
Following a string of suspensions, Jackson was waived by the Broncos late last season and promptly returned to his original team, the Houston Texans, for the remainder of the season. However, he was unsigned during the offseason until joining Buffalo on July 30. The Bills cut him after training camp but added him back to their practice squad. Jackson made headlines in Broncos Country when he publicly reacted to Broncos coach Sean Payton’s observation of the safety corps by stating, “We’re better overall on the back end at that position than we were a year ago.”
Jackson was exposed to those remarks.
Safety of the Broncos At the time, P.J. Locke observed that Jackson was responsible enough to contact him prior to posting on social media. Jackson understood that Locke, his replacement at safety, would be in a delicate situation.
Locke claimed, “He texted me before it happened.” “… I mean, I adore Sean’s remarks, man, because they clearly demonstrate his belief in [Brandon] Jones and me. And we just put in even more effort for the coach when I and the rest of us trust him, man. So I didn’t take anything out of the ordinary from it, but he feels how he feels.”
The defensive back room of the Broncos still holds Jackson in the highest regard. In Week 13, Locke claimed to still text Jackson “every day.”
“I never give Kareem a bad name. I never criticize Justin. The reason I’m standing here now is because of those guys. “It is undeniable,” Locke declared. “A portion of my contract is due to them. I owe them a portion of my contract, but I’m not doing that.
Our current culture is centered around Kareem. The hanging around, the DB excursions, the DB meals, you know. “Kareem is everything,” Locke said. Then simply bringing up the young men. Since he was obviously much older than everyone else when he came here, he had a way of bridging the gap between the young and the elderly. He could converse with everyone.
However, Kareem is the source of all that information. I would thus never disparage those guys [Jackson and Justin Simmons], as I already stated. My brothers are them. And we’re lifelong brothers. And since they are the reason I am standing here, I owe them everything.
