ESPN: The Yankees sign a deal to land the Red Sox favorite rookie in a recent trade acquisition.
Carlos Narvaez, a recent trade acquisition, is one of seven youngsters invited by the Red Sox to take part in their 2025 Rookie Development Program this coming week.
On Tuesday, the players will address the media.
On December 11, Boston traded pitching prospect Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz for 26-year-old catcher Narvaez from the Yankees. The Red Sox also sent $250,000 in international bonus pool space money to New York as part of the agreement.
The camp will be attended by all three of the Red Sox’s “Big Three”: infielder/outfielder Kristian Campbell, shortstop Marcelo Mayer, and outfielder Roman Anthony. Anthony is ranked #1 on Baseball America’s list of the Top 100. Campbell is ranked No. 24 and Mayer No. 10.
Hunter Dobbins, a right-handed pitching prospect who was signed to the 40-man roster in November, and outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia will also play. So will 23-year-old right-hander David Sandlin, who was acquired from the Royals for reliever John Schreiber and who last season touched 101.4 mph with his fastball.
Despite being the player Red Sox fans are most likely to be unfamiliar with, Narvaez has a good chance of making the 2025 Opening Day roster. On the 40-man roster, he and Connor Wong are the only two catchers.
Venezuelan-born Narvaez has only made six major league appearances, all of which were with the Yankees the previous season. With three hits, two walks, and six strikeouts, he finished 3-for-13. Out of two base stealers, he threw one out.
In 96 games (403 plate appearances) with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2024, he batted.254 with a.370 on-base percentage,.412 slugging percentage,.782 OPS, 11 home runs, 20 doubles, 58 RBIs, 54 runs, 56 walks, and 105 strikeouts. Over the course of his eight-year minor league career, he has thrown out 30% of base stealers.
