CBS Sports: Two key defensive backs for the Bills out as they prepare to host the Denver Broncos in the AFC’s final Super Wild Card Weekend game.
Brandon Codrington was limited on Thursday, and Ja’Marcus Ingram remained out.
For the second day in a row, the Buffalo Bills were without two defensive backs during practice as they get ready to host the Denver Broncos in the AFC’s final Super Wild Card Weekend game.
As the organization has given him time to cope with what is being documented as a “personal reason,” Ja’Marcus Ingram missed work for the second day in a row. As the Bills enter their last practice day on Friday, it is noteworthy that they have gone two of the last three days without practice.
Brandon Codrington, a rookie, did make a limited comeback to practice. This season, Codrington has been the Bills’ kick returner and punt returner. In the brief time he was on the practice field on Thursday, Codrington was observed collecting punts but not kickoffs. Wide receiver Khalil Shakir and Buffalo practice squad member K.J. Hamler both caught punts during Thursday’s practice. The Bills had Ray Davis and Ty Johnson, two running backs, assisting Hamler during kickoffs.
Despite not working with the defense at all, the youngster, whose official position is cornerback, assured reporters that this was not unusual. He also discussed his injury, stating that it occurred after the final punt return he fielded during the New England Patriots’ defeat in Week 18. Codrington was evasive when asked if he will participate in this weekend’s playoff game, responding, “We’ll see.”
It’s as healthy as it gets for the remainder of the Bills squad. All players, including linebacker Terrel Bernard, who have been bumped, battered, and bruised and are still receiving care from the Bills’ training staff, have participated fully in Buffalo’s first two postseason sessions.
The visiting team is also largely healthy, and the Bills will meet the Denver Broncos at Highmark Stadium on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST. While backup cornerback Damarri Mathis has been out due to a back issue, offensive lineman Frank Crum is battling an illness.
