ESPN: Aaron Boone boardly ruled out playing newly acquired former MVP following a shocking report.
Perhaps the intention isn’t to have Bellinger to center field.
After Cody Bellinger was acquired by the New York Yankees from the Chicago Cubs, there were rumors that the former MVP will be playing center field for the Yankees in 2025. Aaron Boone, the manager of the Yanks, called the announcement that Bellinger in center field has been settled “fake news” and said it’s everything but.
Boone is most likely being truthful here; anyway, the speed with which the Belli in center field reports were released was a little odd. His comfort level at first base and left field made it seem pointless for the Yankees to assign him to a position months before Spring Training.
Jasson Dominguez is still playing in center field.
Because Bellinger’s early promotion to center probably meant that top prospect Jasson Dominguez was moving to left field, Yankees fans were even more perplexed. But now that Bellinger may be playing first base or left field, or switching between the three, Dominguez’ regular center field position might be available again.
Bellinger in left, Dominguez in center, and Aaron Judge in right is the most sensible outfield configuration. The Yankees will undoubtedly sign a free agent in the next few days to man first base, and Christian Walker appears to be the most likely candidate to do so every day.
The worst issue a club can have is not knowing where to place Cody Bellinger. However, that lineup probably makes the most sense for 2025 because Dominguez is still figuring things out in the Major Leagues and he is most comfortable in left.
