Prior to Friday’s tender deadline, Dustin May, a right-hander who has been injured since May 2023, agreed to a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers worth $2,135,000.

May, who was a part of the Dodgers’ 2020 World Series winning squad, has only made 20 starts since.

On May 12, 2021, eleven days after departing a start at Milwaukee in the second inning after a fastball to Billy McKinney that reached 94.3 mph, he underwent Tommy John surgery. Earlier in the plate appearance, May experienced a shooting feeling on a curveball, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

On August 20, 2022, May rejoined the Dodgers. On May 17, 2023, he left a start against Minnesota in the first inning due to a drop in fastball velocity of almost 2 mph below his season average. On July 18, May underwent Tommy John surgery for the second time.

May underwent surgery this July to repair a tear in his esophagus and is anticipated to return in the second part of the 2024 season.

May has made 34 starts and 12 relief appearances throughout his five seasons with the Dodgers, going 12-9 with a 3.10 ERA. Following the 2025 World Series, he will be eligible for free agency.
