ESPN: Yankees sensational star avoid arbitration with $5 million contract
The Yankees and Trent Grisham have reached an agreement on a new contract.
The 2024 season was an incredible one for the New York Yankees. After finishing with the best record in the American League East, New York made it to the World Series. Trent Grisham, a center fielder who contributed to the Yankees’ success in his debut season in the Bronx, was given an update on his free agency contract on Friday.
Jorge Castillo of ESPN reports that in order to avoid arbitration, Grisham and the Yankees reached an agreement on a one-year, $5 million contract. According to Castillo, Grisham is eligible to receive an additional $250,000 in bonuses according to plate appearances.
Trent Grisham hit nine home runs, averaged.190 at bat, and amassed 31 RBI and.765 OPS in 76 games in 2024. In the future, the former left-hander for the San Diego Padres might make a leap that would further benefit the Yankees.
In late November, Aaron Judge won his second American League MVP award, further cementing his place in Yankees history. Joining legendary franchise icons Thurman Munson and Lou Gehrig, Judge became just the third Yankees player to win an MVP award while serving as an active Yankees captain since MLB began formally recognizing the award in 1991.
He also joined Mickey Mantle as the second Yankees player to win a unanimous MVP award.
Judge received great recognition from Aaron Boone following his outstanding MVP-caliber season.
“I am really happy for Aaron, such a wonderful guy and leader, and I want to congratulate him on receiving this prestigious accolade. I couldn’t imagine a guy having a greater and more complete baseball season after witnessing firsthand his 2022 MVP performance. But in 2024, he achieved precisely that. I consider myself really fortunate to be able to oversee Aaron, and I’m excited to see him further solidify his reputation as one of the greatest of this generation.
With Judge, Trent Grisham, and the other returning players, New York appears to be in capable hands. Juan Soto is the primary player to watch during free agency. The Yankees will have an even better chance of winning the World Series again if he returns.
