ESPN: The Yankees’ owner discuss Aaron Boone’s contract extension with general manager Brian Cashman

Here's what Yankees' brass (likely) discussed in meeting and what they should do - nj.com

Aaron Boone’s 2025 club option was just exercised by the New York Yankees, allowing the manager to stay for an eighth season. After the 2024 World Series loss, the three-year deal he signed in the fall of 2021 ended, but the Yanks took advantage of the 2025 option because it was contained in the agreement, and they will utilize the upcoming season to further explore the possibility of extending Boone.

They will eventually have to make this choice. Despite making some dubious bullpen management choices during the Fall Classic, Boone performed admirably in the postseason and won over both fans and the media. Nevertheless, Boone is once again in the spotlight after the Dodgers’ defeat.

Under the Guise of 'Passion', Hal Steinbrenner's Endorsement of Brian Cashman's Remark Sparks Concerns of a Toxic Culture Within the Yankees Camp - EssentiallySports

How does the owner of the Yankees feel about Boone’s future? Is Hal Steinbrenner interested in him continuing to oversee the Bombers after 2025? He doesn’t yet know, which is not surprising. However, he intends to discuss things more with Brian Cashman, his general manager.

Boone will be discussed by the Yankees’ executives in the future.

Hal Steinbrenner stated that he will speak with Brian Cashman soon about a possible Aaron Boone extension. With the owner’s comments, Yankees insider Bryan Hoch wrote on X, “There’s no huge rush to it, but I will have those discussions as to what we should do next.”

Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner has bold perspective on Brian Cashman's future

Boone has a solid.584 winning percentage with a regular season record of 603-429. He has a 22-23 record (.489 winning %) in the playoffs, which is where he has historically performed poorly. He guided the Yankees to a 7-2 record prior to the World Series, but his 2024 playoff record was 8-6 when he fell there in five games.

The 2025 season will likely be used by Steinbrenner and Cashman to fully assess Boone. There are three options: they may give him an extension, wait until after the World Series to evaluate the issue, or cut him if things don’t work out. However, the last choice is undoubtedly the least likely.

Steinbrenner and Cashman would not have exercised their option if they weren’t currently satisfied with Boone’s job.
