CBS Sports: Raiders Cut Veteran Wide Receiver to Create Space for Michael Mayer

After the bye week, the offense of the Las Vegas Raiders is expected to look very different. The team is getting tight end Michael Mayer back in addition to having Scott Turner as its new playcaller.

The former second-round pick just returned to the team after a personal issue, and he hasn’t played since Week 3. Since the Raiders confirmed that he has been activated off the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list, it appears that they are prepared for him to play against the Miami Dolphins in Week 11.

In order to create room on the roster for Mayer, Las Vegas had to remove wide receiver Alex Bachman. After spending years hopping around practice squads, Bachman finally signed to an active roster for the first time, which is a depressing development.

He hasn’t been having a significant influence on the field, as evidenced by his three catches for 31 yards in six games this season. However, if he is not added by another club, he will have a good chance of returning to the Raiders practice squad. Despite being cut, he might soon be able to play on Sundays again.

It’s unclear how much Turner can do as the Raiders’ new offensive coordinator. He will have to get by with what Luke Getsy put in place before he was sacked and won’t be allowed to employ his own strategy.

Turner is working to address some of the problems that have beset the squad, even if he is aware that he cannot completely revamp the offense.

During his press conference on November 14, Turner stated, “You’re not going to go in and put a brand-new offense in.” We may have certain things that I feel will assist us succeed or with which I’m a little more at ease. After that, all we need to do is convey it to our athletes in a way that makes sense to them. We’ll see how it develops as the season progresses, but there may be a few new things here and there.

While Scott Turner is calling plays, his father, Norv Turner, was hired as an advisor by the Raiders, making him the most noteworthy member of their offensive coaching staff. Although he hasn’t played in the NFL since 2019, Scott Turner promised that his father is aware of the league’s current situation.

Turner remarked, “He watches football all the time.” “He is aware of our offensive actions. He obviously doesn’t understand the language at all, so I simply interpret it. I know, “Oh, yeah, we call it this,” because he simply expresses his opinions. It’s not that difficult at all. Then just the basics. He’s got some information for the quarterbacks. He frequently attends QB meetings. Simply things you don’t even consider. There’s only so much I can see. It’s just another pair of eyes, but our coaching staff is excellent, and those people are doing a fantastic job, too. Additionally, he doesn’t hesitate to express his true opinions to me.
