Detroit Lions Sam LaPorta ruled out against Jaguars

The Detroit Lions are currently regarded by almost everyone as the top team in the NFC, if not the whole NFL.

The Lions have been winning more easily than Patrick Mahomes and company, and Michigan fans are beginning to think that this could be the year the Lions finally win the Vince Lombardi Trophy, even though the Kansas City Chiefs, the reigning AFC and Super Bowl champions, are still unbeaten.

Unfortunately for the Lions, standout tight end Sam LaPorta will not play in Week 11 when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars due to a shoulder injury.

LaPorta has provided 25 receptions for 366 yards and three touchdowns in nine games, and Detroit leads the NFL in points scored.

He earned a spot in the Pro Bowl and substantial consideration for Offensive Rookie of the Year with 86 receptions for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie last season.

The Lions ended 12-5, earning the NFC North championship, and advanced to the NFC Championship Game, where they led the third quarter before losing to the San Francisco 49ers, thanks in part to his outstanding rookie campaign.

Sam LaPorta Misses Thursday Practice

Despite quarterback Jared Goff throwing five interceptions, three of which occurred in the first half, Detroit overcame a significant halftime deficit to upset the Houston Texans in their most recent game.

Before departing in the third quarter, LaPorta had three receptions for a season-high 66 yards and a score.
