As they enter their bye week, the San Francisco 49ers are now 4-4 on the season after defeating the Dallas Cowboys 30–24 on Sunday night. Following the game, NBC conducted interviews with the 49ers’ three offensive standouts: running back Isaac Guerendo, tight end George Kittle, and quarterback Brock Purdy.

Star defensive end Nick Bosa appeared on screen to flash his headgear just as their interview was starting. The words were “Make America Great Again.” Bosa was questioned about the political message following the game. “I’m not gonna talk too much about it,” Bosa stated, “but I think it’s an important time.”

That was all he said. Bosa was vocal about his support for Trump on social media in 2019, prior to being drafted. He chose to tone things down, though, and even removed some of his tweets in the run-up to the NFL Draft. “I had to,” Bosa, in 2019, told ESPN. “There is a chance I might end up in San Francisco.”

In the end, Bosa was chosen by San Francisco with the second overall pick. Since then, he has become one of the league’s top defenders, earning four Pro Bowl selections, a spot on the All-Pro First Team, and the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2022 after leading the league in sacks with 18.5. He also won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2019. Bosa now has 4.5 on the season after getting sacked on Sunday night.

Bosa has been less active in politics in recent years, but with the 49ers’ victory on Sunday night, it was obvious that he wanted to make a statement. In just over a week, on Tuesday, November 5, Election Day will take place. Next week is the 49ers’ bye week, and they won’t play again until after the 2024 election.

On the field, the 49ers defeated Dallas in a crucial game to improve their record to 4-4 for the season. The 49ers controlled the third quarter, taking a 27-10 lead into the fourth quarter after trailing 10-3 and 10-6 at the half. Despite a strong fourth-quarter rally, Dallas lost and sent the 49ers home satisfied as they begin their bye week. Purdy added 56 yards and a touchdown on the ground after completing 69.2 percent of his throws for 260 yards and one touchdown. With six receptions for 128 yards and a score, Kittle was San Francisco’s top receiver.
