Mariners fire offensive coordinator Brant Brown | The Seattle Times

Recruiting former Seattle Mariners assistant Brant Brown and former outfielder Jon Jay as coaches and wooing Robert Cerfolio away from the Guardians to serve as their associate general manager for player development and performance, the St. Louis Cardinals completed their offseason transformation on Tuesday.

Why It’s a wonderful question, “Who is the best Mariners pitcher?”

Brown will take over as St. Louis’ hitting coach after serving as the Mariners’ offensive coordinator and bench coach the previous season. He has played for the Dodgers and Rangers organizations, and he spent the 2023 season in that capacity with the Marlins.

Two months into his debut season in the Seattle dugout, Brown was let go by the Mariners because, despite his acquisition, the team’s offense was struggling.

Jay played in the major leagues for 12 seasons, including 2010–15 with the Cardinals, where he won a World Series in 2011. He was the Marlins’ first base and hitting coach for the previous two seasons.

After serving as a Cardinals coach since 2018, Willie McGee will take on the position of special assistant to baseball operations president John Mozeliak. According to the team, more coaching staff changes will be revealed soon.

The Cardinals said this month that Chaim Bloom would take Mozeliak’s post as head of baseball operations following the 2025 season. Following the Cardinals’ second straight postseason absence, Bloom is expected to oversee a revamp of the team’s player development program throughout the upcoming offseason and season.
