CBS Sports: Raiders Sign Arizona Cardinals Sensational QB In A Mega Deal In Wake Of Aidan O’Connell’s Injury

Raiders To Sign QB Desmond Ridder

The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, 20–15. They didn’t just lose the game, either. An injury also claimed the team’s starting quarterback. According to recent estimates, Aidan O’Connell will probably be sidelined for four to six weeks after breaking his thumb early in Sunday’s encounter.

Las Vegas was aware that they will require further assistance in the interim. Thus, Desmond Ridder of the Arizona Cardinals practice squad was signed by the Raiders, according to a Monday night report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

The Atlanta Falcons selected Ridder in the 2022 NFL Draft. He has played in 19 games since then, starting 17 of them. He has completed 3,544 yards and an even 64 percent of his passes for touchdowns and interceptions in that period. He has an 84.1 lifetime passer rating. Ridder has gained 257 yards on the ground as a runner. He has made five scores and fifteen fumbles.

We’re not sure yet what his future responsibilities will be on the squad. We do know that Las Vegas needed to bolster its quarterback room with O’Connell sidelined for some time. The only other quarterbacks on the team were Carter Bradley and Gardner Minshew. The third will be Ridder.

He might play the identical position of third emergency quarterback. Or he could replace Bradley as the backup. In light of Minshew’s subpar performance against the Rams, Ridder may even start. But for the time being, he’s giving the position some much-needed depth.
