Starting pitcher Carlos Rodon was the target of threats from New York Yankees supporters when he started the team’s playoff game against the Kansas City Royals.

Prior to the 2023 season, the Yankees signed Rodon to a six-year, $162 million contract. In a 4-2 loss, Rodon gave up four runs in just 3.2 innings of work.

However, Yankees supporters chose to vent their resentment on Ashley, Rodon’s wife, and their kids rather than Rodon or the other players on the squad.

According to Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News, “As Carlos Rodón struggled in the fourth inning of Monday’s ALDS Game 2 against the Yankees, his wife Ashley received several ominous direct messages from unidentified users on Instagram.” “One commenter called Carlos a gay slur and threatened to rape the couple’s kids.” “Someone will find your wife and kids,” commented another. There were two knife emojis in that message.

Ashley Rodon then used social media to publish proof and speak out against the harassment.

“DM has already arrived. I enjoy talking to everyone, but this s— has no place here,” the woman commented.

Ashley told the Daily News, “Until someone starts bringing my kids into it, the messages never bother me.”

Meanwhile, Carlos was unaware of the threats until the conclusion of the game.

“That’s fantastic,” he remarked mockingly. “People may be really repulsive at times. However, I don’t think that explains Yankees supporters. That’s not, in my opinion, who they are. I am aware that some players become irritated with the game. I suppose my message to all of my fans is that we are also people. We are not perfect. Not every time are we flawless. I’m by no means perfect, and I know that people might become frustrated when they don’t get what they want from a performance.

But let’s not lose sight of the fact that this is essentially just a baseball game; it has nothing to do with injuring individuals, sending the wrong message, or endangering their families. To be honest, I feel bad for my wife because we cherish our family and our children dearly.

The Carlos Rodon Foundation, which aims to increase women’s access to reproductive therapies, is headed by Carlos and Ashley. The tweet she made about the family’s charity prompted the message she received, which included rape. After they were married in 2018, Ashley experienced two miscarriages. Together, Carlos and Ashley Rodon are now parents to three kids.
