Not just because standout receiver Davante Adams started requesting a trade less than a month into the campaign, the Las Vegas Raiders’ season has taken an unusual turn. That Adams turned against coach Antonio Pierce in particular as well as the organization as a whole is particularly strange, though.

Antonio Pierce didn’t have the greatest response when asked when things with Adams went south:

“I’m not sure (where the issues occurred). You need to put that to Davante.

In his lone interview with reporters on Monday, Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce described the trade scenario as “status quo” in reference to Davante Adams. KTNV

It certainly appear that there is a personal element to the idea of dealing Adams out of Las Vegas. While the Raiders’ offense is absolutely appalling and great players always seem to find a way out of sticky circumstances, Pierce appeared to win over the team’ senior leadership last season. Adams was outspoken during the season in favor of the Raiders maintaining Pierce as head coach.

Following Pierce’s takeover on Halloween in 2023, the Raiders finished 8-9 and were just one win away from the AFC playoffs. Adams conveyed his admiration for Pierce’s directness and honesty when interacting with teammates.
