CBS Sports: Broncos close in to sign a versatile WR of Missouri in a blockbuster deal.
Bo Nix, a rookie, and the Denver Broncos have both come under fire for their underwhelming performance thus far in the season. The quarterback has thrown one touchdown pass, while Nix & Co. have had four touchdown drives this season.
They might not have another chance to solve the problem until the 2025 draft.
On October 4, Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report said, “The Denver Broncos need a long-term wide receiver pairing with quarterback Bo Nix.”
Luther Burden III of Missouri fired up the Tigers in their previous two games. During that time, the wide receiver grabbed 12 catches for 193 yards and three touchdowns. Burden’s versatility on the inside and outside along with his unique ability to create after the catch are what make him such a great fit in Denver.
In 2024, the 5-foot-11, 208-pound Burden has already caught 26 passes for 339 yards and 4 touchdowns. On October 5, he had seven receptions for eighty-two yards during the Tigers’ defeat by Texas A&M.
A penalty also caused a 75-yard touchdown to be brought back for him.
According to Sobleski, “Payton’s plan once mainly relied on Marques Colston operating from the slot.” Although Burden is smaller than Colston, he still has a powerful lower body that allows him to break tackles and maneuver through traffic with comparable effectiveness.
Compared to Colston, who is six feet four, Burden is much smaller. However, it’s a fair comparison given his playing prowess, which also brings Burden closer to a more modern exemplar.
