Raiders 2024 roster: Xavien Howard film breakdown - Silver And Black Pride

The cornerbacks for the Las Vegas Raiders have performed admirably thus far this season. Pro Football Focus reports that through two games, Jack Jones and Jakorian Bennett have only allowed eight receptions combined. However, the team’s lack of depth is something to be concerned about.

Should either Bennett or Jones sustain an injury, the defense may potentially face difficulties. With no cornerback older than 26 on the roster, the team is also extremely youthful at the position. For this and other reasons, former Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard seems like a perfect fit in Las Vegas, according to Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine.

“That Howard hasn’t been signed yet is kind of amazing,” Ballentine said in a piece published on September 16. “He was a reliable starter for the Miami Dolphins the previous season, and reliable starters are hard to come by at this position. Despite his struggles with injuries, he has proven to be a valuable player when he is on the pitch.

The Raiders could make use of it. Many young males are counting on them to get to the next level of their development. If Howard signs on, they will have a solid backup plan in case someone like Jakorian Bennett decides not to continue on.

Decamerion Richardson, a cornerback selected in the third round, did not play in the first two games of the season and is expected to stay out of the lineup as he has not practiced this week. If he doesn’t get better soon, that simply makes the need at cornerback more urgent.

Howard seems like the most sensible choice among the available free agent cornerbacks. He is a four-time Pro Bowler, has twice led the NFL in interceptions, and in 2019 he was a member of Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham’s Dolphins defense. He may be very helpful to the defense if he is only a depth piece because he would be quick to pick things up.

Antonio Pierce Gives Accolades Arguably, the Raiders defense’s biggest surprise has been Jakorian Bennett Bennett. So far this season, he has only allowed three receptions and has not made any poor plays. Since April, head coach Antonio Pierce has observed Bennett, and he has left him extremely impressed.

During his news conference on September 18, Pierce stated, “Man, like I said, you could see it was a different look, to be honest, in his eyes when he came back in the spring in April, like, ‘Ok, he’s working hard.'” “You see, we had [Brandon] Facyson here at the time, and he was supporting Facyson by just slowly continuing to chop wood.” Subsequently, during the preseason, he produced a play on the goal line as Minnesota attempted a fourth-down play.
