CBS Sports: Steelers sign in sensational WR From Practice Squad To 53-Man Roster.

Steelers Elevate Wide Receiver from Practice Squad

The Steelers quickly added a player to the roster after Tyler Matakevich was placed on injured reserve. Ben Skowronek, an elite special teams player and wide receiver, was added by Pittsburgh to its 53-man roster on Tuesday, according to the NFL transactions sheet.

It’s interesting to note that the Steelers haven’t made the announcement officially yet. Steelers Now’s Alan Saunders was the first to see it.

Over the past two weeks, Skowronek has been added to the Steelers practice squad. During the regular season, he was only eligible for one further promotion. Rather, the Steelers made the official decision to include him in the 53-man roster.

As we approach Week 3, Skowronek is suffering with a shoulder ailment. Although the severity is unknown, it shouldn’t keep him back for very long considering the new signing.

Wide receiver Jaray Jenkins was added by the Steelers to take Skowronek’s spot on the practice squad. Jenkins played a few preseason games for the Steelers, where he spent the summer. Brooke Pryor was the first to report about his signing.

Coming out of college, Jenkins, a 6’2″ and 204-pound receiver, ran a 40-yard sprint in 4.6 seconds.

With the addition of these roster changes, the Steelers have concluded a hectic Tuesday that also saw the team sign defensive backs James Pierre and D’Shawn Jamison, release cornerback Zyon Gilbert, and place wide receiver Shaquan Davis to injured reserve.
