CBS Sport: Dolphins star player sustained “Serious” Injury during game against Bills.
When Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa collided with Buffalo Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin and struck the back of his head on the field on Thursday night, he sustained a concussion for the third time in his NFL career.
After nearly two minutes on the ground, Tagovailoa stood up and made his way to the sidelines. Later, he made his way to the tunnel, gave the stands a quick glance, grinned, and walked for the locker room.
The Dolphins promptly declared his injury to be a concussion. Tagovailoa was diagnosed with a concussion while playing college football at Alabama, and he also sustained two during the 2022 season.
Tagovailoa would get “appropriate care” and a “proper procedural evaluation” the following day, according to Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel.
McDaniel underlined that Tagovailoa’s health was the main concern and not the timetable for his comeback. “Like the rest of the team, we need to assess and prioritize my teammate,” McDaniel stated. “Tomorrow, we’ll gather more details and address it piece by piece.”
When they saw Tagovailoa in the locker room following the game, a few players felt comforted by his state. Before leaving for home, Tagovailoa talked with a few players, according to McDaniel.
Following Tagovailoa’s injury, quarterback Skylar Thompson took over at quarterback and voiced concerns for his health. Thompson stated, “Everyone in the organization feels the same way—you care about the person more than the player.” “We’re all hoping for a good outcome and praying for Tua.”
Prior to the current campaign, Tagovailoa inked a four-year, $212 million contract extension, elevating him to the top of the NFL wage scale. In Week 1, he was the league leader in throwing yards. The final score when Tagovailoa departed the game was 31-10, against the Dolphins.
Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Bills, tweeted his condolences for Tagovailoa following the game. “You can’t help but feel for Tua if you know him outside of football,” Allen remarked.
“Aside from being a fantastic football player, he’s a wonderful person. You’ll meet some truly amazing people in him. I really hope everything works out for him since I care a lot about him. This is undoubtedly one of the downs in this game of ups and downs.
