The Rise of Reynaldo López

The Braves may have just lost another player to injury as Reynaldo Lopez’s velocity was low to start Tuesday night’s game against the Nationals and he was finally taken out of the game before the second inning. I’ve had to type far too many of these pieces this season.

Not too long ago, Reynaldo Lopez went on the injured list for about a month due to some discomfort in his forearm during a game against the Mets. After making a comeback on August 20, he went on to allow two earned runs or fewer in four of his next appearances, bringing his season ERA down to 2.04.

Lopez showed no signs of any negative consequences, if any existed at all. He’s only appeared better since joining the team, if anything. But it’s troubling that they suffered two such injuries in the course of a month, and given how this season has gone, it doesn’t seem like they will strike it lucky again. Reynaldo Lopez is likely done for the season, following Ronald Acuña Jr., Austin Riley, Spencer Strider, A.J. Minter, and Ozzie Albies on the injured list, even if he simply needs some rest.

With just 18 games remaining, a season-ending injury to Reynaldo Lopez could be the final straw for the Braves, who have had a forgettable year due to injuries.
