Raiders Rumors: K'Lavon Chaisson Expected to Land Contract After Panthers Release | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors | Bleacher Report

NFL pass rusher K’Lavon Chaisson is receiving his third chance, having been cut by the Panthers a week earlier. Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report reports that Chaisson will be joining the Raiders practice squad.

Chaisson, an LSU product who was previously selected in the first round, had difficulty in Jacksonville during his rookie deal. The Jaguars gave their 20th overall pick, who made just three starts in his debut season, a sluggish start to his career.

After a season, Chaisson made eight starts but didn’t add much more value to the defense. Chaisson played a career-low amount of snaps in 2023 after missing eight games in 2022 due to injury, but he did eventually have a multi-sack season.

Chaisson signed with the Panthers as a free agent after learning that the team had declined his option to play in 2015. Along with Chaisson, two additional free agent additions, Jadeveon Clowney and D.J. Wonnum, made the team’s first 53-man roster; however, a week later, only Clowney and Wonnum were still on it.

Now that the Raiders are struggling with a long list of ailments to their pass-rushing squad, Chaisson will travel to Vegas. Malcolm Koonce, a defensive end, suffered a knee injury the day before the Raiders’ season opener. It was revealed yesterday that Las Vegas was seeking on-the-edge assistance due to a reported knee sprain sustained by first-round pick Tyree Wilson last year.

Chaisson is the one who provides that assistance. Chaisson would support Maxx Crosby, Janarius Robinson, Wilson, and Charles Snowden if he was called up from the practice squad. Though it puts the team members on the edge, it still leaves the position room a little bit thin.

The Raiders promoted cornerback Kyu Blu Kelly to their practice squad in addition to Chaisson. Kelly was selected by the Ravens in the fifth round of the previous year, but he was not included on the 53-man roster and played parts of his rookie campaign with Seattle, Green Bay, and Washington. After thirteen months, he now joins his sixth team.
