Steelers Signing P Corliss Waitman - NFLTradeRumors.co

With Cameron Johnston sidelined for the whole season, the Steelers require a replacement punter. The team will look to a well-known individual to fill the role. Corliss Waitman will be signed by Pittsburgh, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. This will be his third employment with the company.

Aside from short time in the summer with the Patriots and Raiders, Waitman played most of his first two NFL seasons with Pittsburgh, where he appeared in two games in 2021. In 2022, he signed a full-time contract with the Broncos, where he led the NFL with 96 punt returns while playing in all 17 games. Week three of that season saw him named Special Teams Player of the Week after placing six of his 10 punts inside the 20.

He played for the Patriots again after leaving Denver, and he also had a brief position with the Bears. He will now be a part of a Steelers team that is in need of reinforcement following the loss of their starter for the entire campaign. Waitman was one of six punters who tried out for the Pittsburgh Steelers today, along with Jack Browning, Trenton Gill, Matt Haack, Austin McNamara, and Porter Wilson, according to seasoned NFL reporter Howard Balzer.

According to Pelissero, the Steelers signed safety Terrell Edmunds from the Jaguars practice squad today, proving that they weren’t done with reunions. Despite starting 75 of his 79 games as a starter in Pittsburgh to start his career, the former first-round pick had a turbulent 2023 year.

Edmunds began three of his seven games as an Eagle before being traded to Tennessee during the previous offseason. During his final nine games with the Titans, he started one. He was one of the last cuts made by the Jaguars after he caught on during the spring, but he began the season on the practice squad. He played six defensive snaps in his first week on the active roster after being promoted.

After evaluating some of their internal alternatives, the organization is probably acquiring Edmunds since rookie Ryan Watts will be sidelined for the whole season due to a neck issue. The bulk of the snaps at the position will still be taken by Minkah Fitzpatrick and DeShon Elliott, but Edmunds will now provide the team more backup alternatives than Damontae Kazee and Miles Killebrew.
