Breaking news: Dallas Cowboys Signs a Sensational QB to end Dak Prescott’s controversial Contract Saga.
Widespread criticism was directed at the Dallas Cowboys for not extending the contracts of wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott as of August 1. Before the Cowboys game on Sunday begins, both players may sign long-term contracts.
With a deal that will keep Lamb wearing a Cowboys uniform for the next five years, Dallas avoided a further impasse with Lamb, elevating him to the status of one of the highest paid NFL players. But even after that NFL information surfaced, the organization came under fire for taking so long to complete the process.
In addition, the Cowboys front office was dealing with much more serious issues. Prescott’s deal keeps him from being franchise-tagged in 2025, thus the team cannot prohibit him from entering NFL free agency. The free market would not only raise his contract price further, but it would also raise the possibility that he would leave Dallas liable for his 2025 cap hit.

What happens to Dallas if Prescott leaves would further complicate things. The Cowboys would be forced into quarterback purgatory, restructure their roster, find a new quarterback, and still incur a $40.137 million cap charge from Prescott’s 2025 contract, which would expire. That could have been sufficient motivation to move things along.
The Cowboys and Prescott are “working away” at a new contract this weekend, according to ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler. The intention is to have it agreed upon before the club plays the Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon.
