Breaking news: Raiders vs Chargers game rescheduled due to weather report…..
The weather on Sunday will be terrible due to a heat wave in Southern California.
There will be more emotion in this home opener for the LA Chargers against the Las Vegas Raiders than in most Week 1 contests of the 2024 NFL season. Not only has the Jim Harbaugh era begun in Los Angeles, but the players in the locker room want retribution for the humiliation they suffered 63–21 against the previous season.
Fans of the Chargers and Raiders will undoubtedly throng SoFi Stadium on Sunday to cheer for their respective teams. Since relocating to SoFi Stadium, the Chargers have experienced far greater success drawing home crowds, but the Raiders are one club that consistently manages to pack the house in black and gold (something they struggle to do in their own home stadium).
Even though the stadium is covered, the Sunday weather has the potential to affect both the game and the fan experience. Being an outdoor stadium, SoFi Stadium is affected by the weather, and on Sunday, the weather will make for a horrible experience for fans.
There’s terrible news for Chargers-Raiders fans attending the game: the weather report
At kickoff, Inglewood, California is expected to be 94 degrees Fahrenheit and 41% humidity. At kickoff, the temperature will feel like 96 degrees, and it won’t go below 94 degrees during the whole game.
The combination of that level of heat and the dense humidity will produce conditions more akin to those in Florida than in California. Despite the higher humidity in Florida, neither of the games there are expected to hit 90 degrees. The Raiders vs. Chargers game is the hottest of the week by far.
Given that SoFi Stadium is covered, you might not think this is a huge concern if you haven’t been. In the seats, you’ll be able to experience full 94 degrees of heat and 41% of humidity. It will still be a scorching day for everyone, even though fans in the lower bowl won’t feel it as much as those in the higher seats.
Furthermore, SoFi Stadium has a glass ceiling. Therefore, even though the weather above covers you, the sun still shines inside the stadium during the warmest portion of the day. This is not your typical domed stadium, where the weather outside is entirely different from the interior temperature.
It is likely to be a heated one, and neither club will actually benefit from the Raiders’ Las Vegas roots. However, it will undoubtedly affect the spectators.
It’s probably not the best idea to wear something that will heat up quickly this week. Maybe even a shirt is too revealing. If there was ever a game for shorts and t-shirts, it’s this one.
