Breakingnews: Steelers Sentional Star Signs a Blockbuster Deal With Atlanta Falcons.

Cameron Heyward - Pittsburgh Steelers Defensive Tackle - ESPN

With the goal of signing a new deal and being a Pittsburgh Steeler for life, Cameron Heyward started the offseason.

He appears to have succeeded in addressing both objectives.

Heyward and the Steelers have reached a three-year, $45 million agreement, according to a report on Tuesday from NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. According to Rapoport, the agreement contains $29 million in additional funding, approximately $15 million at signing, and $16 million fully guaranteed. The three-year contract was later disclosed by the team.

The defensive lineman, a six-time All-Pro, was due a base salary of $16 million in 2024, with no guarantees. This spring, he missed his first voluntary organized team activities, indicating his desire for a new contract.

But all’s well that ends well, and the 35-year-old has set himself up to retire in Pittsburgh should he so desire.

But as of right now, Heyward is still performing admirably.

From 2017 to 2022, he was selected for six consecutive Pro Bowls. One major issue is that he only recorded two sacks in 2023 after missing six games with a groin ailment.

Still, the Steelers rely heavily on the 2011 NFL Draft first-round pick both in the locker room and on the field. With no contract issues to cloud his future, the 2023 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year will begin another season in Pittsburgh after producing 80.5 sacks and 647 tackles over his career.

Heyward and the Steelers take on the Atlanta Falcons on the road on Sunday to kick off the 2024 season.
