Dallas QB3 Trey Lance finds groove in Cowboys' victory in Las Vegas | The Seattle Times

Although it may not survive the entire season, the Las Vegas Raiders have committed to starting Gardner Minshew over Aidan O’Connell as quarterback in 2024. After a difficult preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys in which he completed 10-of-21 passes without leading a scoring drive, Minshew is coming off of it.

Although Dak Prescott, the starting quarterback for the Cowboys, was not on the field, the Raiders ought to have taken notice of another quarterback on the team. Trey Lance gained 151 yards and a touchdown on 15-5f-23 completions. At just 24 years old, the former third overall pick has only had the opportunity to start four NFL games.

Because Lance has more promise than any quarterback on the Raiders roster, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal suggested in an August 17 X post that the team should trade for Lance.

Dallas acquired Lance from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a fourth-round selection last season. It’s difficult to think he would be worth a lot more today. For a project like Lance, the Raiders may find it worthwhile to forfeit a fourth-round pick. Even though he is starting his fourth season, he is still younger than O’Connell, who is in his second year and turns 26 on September 1.

Are the Las Vegas Raiders and Trey Lance a Good Fit?
At quarterback, the Raiders have little to be enthusiastic about. Although Minshew is the starter, he is a well-known player. In his sixth season, he has tallied 21 touchdown passes in his career. O’Connell has little athletic potential and is advanced for a second-year player.

At most, the Raiders would have a promising developing project with a guy such as Lance. Despite not being very quick, his strong arm and 6-foot-4 stature allow him to move around more adeptly than the team’s current quarterbacks.

The main criticism leveled at Lance is his poor passing accuracy. In eight games played so far, his completion percentage is 54.9%. It makes no difference how big his arm is if he cannot accurately deliver passes to receivers. Nevertheless, the Raiders don’t stand to lose anything. With Minshew and O’Connell, the ceiling is constrained. If Lance is having trouble, they can always bench him and at least have some hope. In case the Raiders are worried about their quarterback situation, Lance seems like the most interesting player.

Trey Lance Could Be Wanted by the Dallas Cowboys to Stay

The Cowboys won’t get much out of Lance this season. Cooper Rush seems to be the backup, with Prescott serving as the starter. Nevertheless, Prescott’s contract expires after this season, and the organization is unable to apply the franchise tag to him.

The Cowboys will be unable to stop the Pro Bowl quarterback if he decides to go in free agency the following season. In the event that they lose Prescott, Lance might serve as their insurance. Having said that, they would still need to hope that Lance wants to play in Dallas because he is not guaranteed a contract beyond the current one.

It makes no sense not to trade the young quarterback if a team is willing to trade for Lance and the Cowboys think Prescott may stay. As the season progresses, this might be something to keep an eye on.
