Breaking: Yankees favorite reliever signed a mega deal with the Chicago White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox are having an exceptionally poor season. In light of this, the team, according to Chicago’s official account on X, claimed reliever Enyel De Los Santos off waivers after the Yankees designated him for assignment.

At the trade deadline, the Yankees added bullpen pitcher Mark Leiter Jr. from the Chicago Cubs and third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins. In a less publicized transaction, New York also acquired De Los Santos from the Padres in a deadline deal.

In an attempt to give the bullpen some depth, the Yankees added De Los Santos. Sadly, in his five games with New York, the 28-year-old journeyman did not make an impression. In 6.1 innings pitched in the Bronx, he recorded a 14.21 ERA, 2.526 WHIP, 7.1 K/9, and an ERA+ of 31.

The Yankees had had enough after the well-traveled righty gave up eight hits and seven earned runs in 1.2 innings in a blowout defeat to the lowly White Sox. Two days later on August 14, when they put Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day IL, New York placed De Los Santos for assignment.

Desperate to get pitchers to pitch the necessary number of innings to finish the 2024 season, the White Sox leaped at the chance to claim De Los Santos off waivers. This might be a promising encounter, given that he helped Chicago win before joining the team.
