Jakob Johnson reflects on second NFL season, first career touchdown - Pats Pulpit

This comes as a little surprise. Let’s face it, not because the player is a household name, but many of us have forgotten about fullbacks. For the NY Giants, head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen, the same cannot be true.

It was just announced that the G-Men had signed seasoned fullback Jakob Johnson to fill the role. Johnson played his first two seasons with the Patriots before joining the Raiders in Las Vegas for the last two. It’s time to see what he can do with the Giants now that Saquon Barkley is no longer with the Philadelphia Eagles, as they will have a new look for their running assault in 2024.

This occurs shortly after Joshua Kelley, a former running back for the Chargers, was signed by the Giants to a new contract. This move made sense because Tyrone Tracy Jr. will miss some time due to a sprained ankle. What about Johnson? Yes, this is a sensible addition as well.

Johnson has been lining up well from his wide receiver position, giving lead runners good blocks. In Vegas as well as New England, he has been able to do the task. He’s also well-known to Carmen Bricillo, the new offensive line coach. Before moving to East Rutherford to work with Coach Dabes, Bricillo was the offensive line coach for the Raiders and NE; he is certain that Johnson can perform.

Even though they don’t often receive the greatest praise, fullbacks are extremely important in today’s game. This is an intriguing addition to the Giants’ offensive jigsaw, since without Saquon, the ground game will undoubtedly look very different coming forward. Over his career, Johnson has made 67 appearances, making 34 starts. Without a doubt, this is an interesting signing.
