Breaking: Due to injury Eagles favorite Lineman leaves second preseason game early.

When the Philadelphia Eagles played the Baltimore Ravens in their preseason opener last week, they performed admirably in avoiding injuries.

Sadly, the Eagles’ luck was not as good against the New England Patriots on Thursday night in their second preseason game. In the second quarter, offensive lineman Tyler Steen, a second-year player, sustained an ankle injury.

According to Zach Berman of PHLY, the teenage offensive lineman was briefly injured on the field but was able to leave the area on his own. But according to John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Steen was spotted pushing a cart to the locker room.

During training camp, Steen has been dealing with a “mild ankle injury,” which hasn’t helped him in the race for the starting right guard position. The Eagles were hoping that Steen would advance and seize the starting position this summer, with Cam Jurgens switching from right guard to center to replace Jason Kelce.

But with the ankle injury impeding the former third-round pick, Mekhi Becton, an experienced offensive lineman, was able to step in and take the position. Throughout camp, Becton has played a lot of right guard and is the favorite to start the first game of the season.

Steen will be sidelined for the remainder of the Eagles’ preseason game against New England on Thursday. The team hopes to have the youthful offensive lineman healthy for the final preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings the following week.
