Breaking: Vikings Sign in Carolina Panthers favorite Quarterback in a Blockbuster Deal.
Quarterback Matt Corral was signed by the Vikings on Friday.
J.J. McCarthy, Minnesota’s rookie quarterback, was placed on injured reserve to make room for Corral.
The 25-year-old Corral did not play in an NFL game since the Carolina Panthers selected him in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Corral spent the 2023 offseason with the Patriots.
From 2018 to 21, Corral attended Mississippi to play collegiate football. He had an NCAA passer rating of 159.2 after completing 614 of 912 passes (67.3%) for 8,287 yards and 57 touchdowns versus 23 interceptions.
Corral also gained 1,338 yards and 18 touchdowns on 334 rushes. In the 2021 Heisman Trophy vote, he came in ninth place.
Corral most recently played with the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League, the 2024 champions. He started three games, going 3-0, and completed 36 of 62 passes for 494 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
During the opening preseason game versus Las Vegas on Saturday, McCarthy sustained a meniscus injury. After surgery this week, he will miss the rest of the 2024 campaign.
