NY Jets head coach: Aaron Rodgers ‘doesn’t care’ about his teammates, he is too selfish.
Mangini’s dislike for Rodgers is REAL.
When NY Jets head coach Robert Saleh said earlier this month that quarterback Aaron Rodgers would miss the team’s first two preseason games, most rational football voices weren’t overly shocked or alarmed.
After all, Rodgers did not participate in the Jets’ opening two preseason games in 2023, and many NFL clubs use their starting quarterbacks in exhibition games in a manner akin to this.
Particularly when the starting quarterback is forty years old and recovering from an Achilles tear, it is extremely common for teams to sit him or her for the most of the preseason. Once more, this is very simple stuff.
Eric Mangini, the former head coach of the Jets, apparently missed the notice. During a recent episode of FS1’s “First Things,” veteran NFL wide receiver Greg Jennings joined Mangini in talking about Rodgers’ missed preseason games.
Not only to help the Jets’ offense but also to help Rodgers shake off any potential rust, Jennings urged that the player play in the preseason this summer. Mangini wholeheartedly concurred, even criticizing Rodgers’ lack of regard for his teammates.
Aaron Rodgers ‘doesn’t care’ about his teammates on the New York Jets, according to Eric Mangini.
Rodgers “doesn’t care about the other 10 guys,” Mangini continued, adding that he just “cares about himself.” The former head coach of the New York Jets likened Aaron Rodgers to quarterback Tom Brady, implying that while Brady is receptive to suggestions that could improve him, Rodgers will only follow “what is best for him.”
Mangini unleashed a tirade on the quarterback of his previous team, accusing him of showing no regard for his coaching staff and teammates. In recent years, a number of NFL experts have made disparaging remarks about Aaron Rodgers; Mangini’s remarks were among the most forceful.
Naturally, it’s logical to assume that Mangini’s statement would be sharply contested by people in the Jets organization. Since moving to Florham Park, Rodgers has received high marks from his teammates and has rapidly made a name for himself with his new team—something he was unable to do in his final years in Green Bay.
Rodgers has demonstrated his commitment to the Jets organization by participating in every optional offseason activity for the past two seasons. That shouldn’t be eclipsed by two missed sessions in the middle of June.
In addition, Mangini seems to be harboring personal animosity toward the four-time MVP based on his claim that Aaron Rodgers “doesn’t care” about his teammates because his coaching staff is the one choosing not to play him in the preseason.
Rodgers has reportedly been pressuring to play at some point during the preseason, according to Saleh. He wants to be there for his colleagues as well as for himself.
Mangini is only the most recent in a long string of “analysts” to criticize Rodgers and the Jets unfairly. He won’t be the last, and he’s not the first either.
