ESPN news: 4200-Yard Wide Receiver Josh Allen’s Arsenal Gained in Buffalo Bills Trade Proposal
In the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills selected former Florida State wide receiver Keon Coleman first overall, but they may not be done adding to quarterback Josh Allen’s supporting cast.
The Bills’ receiving group requires a makeover after losing Gabriel Davis and Stefon Diggs in trades with the Houston Texans.
It’s hard to see general manager Brandon Beane and the Bills keeping things as they are and letting Allen start the 2018 season with the top three wide receivers on the depth chart being Khalil Shakir, Coleman, and Curtis Samuel.
With a lot of budget room available to them over the next two offseasons, Buffalo might be a team to keep an eye on if they manage to pull off a blockbuster deal to add a seasoned pass-catcher before the new campaign begins.
Buffalo Bills-Courtland Sutton Trade Proposal with the Denver Broncos
Over the past two seasons, Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton has been the focus of almost constant trade rumors. As the 28-year-old approaches the final year of a five-year contract, there’s still a chance he’ll be dealt this spring.
The Bills were included in Zach Bachar of Bleacher Report’s list of Sutton’s finest fits.
Bacher writes, “After the Bills lost Gabriel Davis in free agency,” for Bleacher Report. “They dealt the Houston Texans Stefon Diggs. Despite choosing Florida State’s Keon Coleman as the first pick in the second round in an attempt to strengthen its wide receiver group, Buffalo might still add another target for Josh Allen to throw to.
After all, Buffalo only selected Coleman as a receiver in the 2024 draft. Additionally, the Bills have $27.4 million in effective cap space through 2025, which gives them just enough money to consider extending Sutton’s contract in the event of a trade.
Sutton would give the Bills’ passing game more explosiveness and could possibly be a better option than Diggs in that area.
Sutton, after all, is coming off a career-high 10 touchdown receptions in 2023 and has a career 14.3 yards per reception average with 298 catches for 4,259 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Sutton: Can the Bills Afford Him?
Beane might have to pay a premium if Buffalo is determined to take Sutton.
The Denver News 9’s Mike Klis reports that the Broncos have “no plans” to trade Sutton.
Although that may be the case at the moment, Sutton is entitled to base pay of $13.5 million in 2025 and $13 million in 2024.
In order to get rid of Sutton and prevent him from becoming a free agency after the 2025 season, the Broncos might be able to convince Denver to agree to a trade in exchange for a first-round pick and a third-round selection in the 2025 draft.
Buffalo is expected to have $5.8 million in cap space in 2025, $85.3 million in 2026, and $240.6 in 2027, which would be plenty of financial flexibility to fit a new Sutton deal under the limit. After all, Buffalo’s Super Bowl window is dependent on surrounding Allen with playmaking weapons.
