In an attempt to turn things around after recent setbacks, the National League West and National League East division leaders begin a series at Dodger Stadium on Monday.
In a match between the two teams with the top two records in the National League, the Dodgers will welcome the Phillies when they return home on Monday night at Dodger Stadium. But as of late, both clubs are really battling it out.
The Dodgers dropped five of their first seven games on their road trip, even after their victory on Saturday in Oakland, before playing the series finale against the A’s on Sunday. Since July 27, Los Angeles is just 13–16.
The Phillies, who haven’t won a series since sweeping the Dodgers in Philadelphia from July 9–11, have performed even worse. The Phillies entered Sunday having lost 13 of their previous 17 games since that series, including six in a row.
The Dodgers have won three straight series at Dodger Stadium and are 8-2 at home in their previous ten games, but the majority of their recent struggles have come away from home.
Starting the opening two games of the series, each with five days off, are Tyler Glasnow and Clayton Kershaw. After being dominated by the Padres in his first career no-strikeout game, Kershaw is feeling under pressure.
The Phillies’ first two games in Los Angeles are started by left-hander Christopher Sánchez and Aaron Nola, with youngster Tyler Phillips starting the final game.
On Wednesday night, Gavin Stone will get the call. Since his shutout on June 26, Stone has struggled greatly, sporting a 7.15 ERA in five outings. This season, that will mark the Dodgers’ sixth start on four days off, and Stone’s third.
