ESPN: Juan Soto of the Yankees reveals one thing after free agency.
Juan Soto, an outfielder with the New York Yankees, stated that he expects to have some professional stability after signing his next deal during his All-Star Game media availability on Monday.
According to Soto’s comments in Spanish, which Jorge Castillo of ESPN published, “it’s a little uncomfortable wearing different jerseys and changing teams,” “I’m looking forward to wearing one for a long time.”
Before the season began and in the months following his trade to the Yankees from the San Diego Padres, Soto made similar remarks. The 25-year-old has done well to consistently state that he will only play for the Yankees for the remainder of the current season. Last week, it was revealed that front office personnel in New York, including team owner Hal Steinbrenner, “do seem to be convinced now” that Soto will be eligible for free agency after the season.
Regarding the Yankees, who were at one point the top club in Major League Baseball before going through a summer downturn and finishing at 58-40 heading into the All-Star break. The New York Yankees are now one game behind the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East heading into the second half of the season.
“Who wouldn’t want to support a winning team? Regarding his uncertain future, Soto stated, “In my opinion, it’s always good to be there and be a part of it when you’re on a winning team.”
In reference to teams “expected to compete with the Yankees for Soto’s services” later this year, Castillo cited the Washington Nationals, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox, and Chicago Cubs. Soto played for the Nationals from 2018 until a portion of the 2022 campaign, but more lately, the Mets and Soto have been strongly associated by several.
In order to pay Soto, the Mets may decide to allow All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso to try free agency this autumn.
During his remarks, Soto said, “I would play the lottery if I knew the future. The future is unknown to anyone. Ultimately, I’m relishing this occasion as a representative of the New York Yankees. Although I’m thrilled to be playing in the game, who knows what will occur the following year.”
The Yankees were ranked third among the betting favorites to win the 2024 World Series with +550 odds as of Tuesday morning, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. By signing what would turn out to be a historic contract, the Bronx Bombers could even persuade Soto to stay put by taking part in this year’s Fall Classic.
