Los Yankees fueron exhortados a liberar a su estrella favorita de inmediato, en beneficio propio.
Sal Licata, MLB analyst for SNY and host of the WFAN radio program, thinks the Yankees should take serious offers for All-Star outfielder Juan Soto before the July 30 trade deadline.
“They should do it, even though they won’t do it. Regarding the Yankees, Licata stated, “This team has failed year after year,” during Friday’s episode of WFAN’s “Brandon Tierney and Sal Licata,” which was posted by the Audacy website. “It is identical. Selling Juan Soto would seem like the better course of action. There’s basically nothing else, so that’s the piece.”
As reported by the Associated Press (via ESPN), the struggling Yankees lost Thursday night’s 5-4 game against the Tampa Bay Rays, marking their 18th consecutive loss in 25 games. Following the Bronx Bombers’ 56-39 start on Friday, some supporters are urging team owner Hal Steinbrenner to remove manager Aaron Boone. The Bronx Bombers were previously 50-22.
In reference to Soto’s immediate future, a report surfaced on Thursday night stating that Steinbrenner and the Yankees front office as a whole “seem to be convinced now” that the 25-year-old will not sign an extension during the current season and will instead become a free agent this fall. After the World Series, big-spending New York Mets owner Steve Cohen is likely to pursue Soto, and the slugger may try to sign a contract that guarantees him about $600 million.
Licata declared, “They’re cooked,” in reference to the Yankees’ decision to sell rather than acquire before the trade deadline. They are not valuable to save. How can one contribute to this team? This crew is all about a number of different things. They are not a wise investment. Eliminate the emotion from it; their team isn’t very good.”
Steinbrenner hasn’t indicated that he will give up on the season, naturally, even after the team had a disappointing month. Ultimately, the Yankees concluded their MLB play on Thursday with a wild-card postseason berth in the American League and a mere two games separating them from the top-seeded Baltimore Orioles in the AL East.
In the end, Licata might be correct in saying that a team that hasn’t played in the World Series since 2009 might not reach its objective. Even though selling Soto would probably be beneficial for the Yankees in the long run, until the team completely collapses over the next few weeks, he won’t be going anywhere.
