Starting this Tuesday night, the New York Mets and New York Yankees will square off in the most recent installment of the Subway Series at Citi Field in an all-New York matchup. In the National League East standings, Bader and the Mets continue to lag behind the Philadelphia Phillies by a significant number of games. With a 37-39 record going into their game against the Yankees on Tuesday, the Mets are only fourth in their division and 14 games behind the Phillies, who are leading the NL East.
Still, the Mets have been playing well lately. They have won seven straight games during their current 11-game winning streak (9-2). The Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs 5-2 at Wrigley Field in the series finale last Sunday. Their recent success has been largely attributed to their offense. With a.281 batting average and a.853 on-base percentage over the past 15 days, the Mets are actually ranked fourth overall in the major leagues.
In Game 1 of the Subway Series, Sean Manaea will start for the Mets in the mound, while David Peterson will start in Game 2 on Wednesday. So far this season, Peterson has made four starts and is 3-0 with a 3.97 ERA. Conversely, Manaea has a 4-3 record with a 4.16 ERA in 14 starts.
It seems like the Mets are taking advantage of the Yankees. The Bronx Bombers, who have a 52-28 record and are leading the American League East division going into the Mets series, are struggling as they have dropped four of their previous five games. In just his second start of the season, the six-time All-Star Gerrit Cole will get the ball in the first game of the series against the Mets.
