El ex jugador preferido de los Red Sox firma con un rival de la división después de su liberación en Boston.
Despite leaving the Red Sox earlier this month, Garrett Cooper chose to remain in the American League East.
According to Craig Mish of the Miami Herald, Cooper inked a minor-league contract with the Baltimore Orioles on Monday. Ten days after Boston released the seasoned first baseman, who had been assigned to the team on June 11, the agreement was completed.
Cooper, who began the season with the Cubs, will be playing for the Orioles for the third time this year. The 33-year-old was designated for assignment by Chicago on April 23 and was moved to the Red Sox four days later in exchange for cash.
Cooper batted in Boston, but he had little effect there.171 across 24 games with four doubles, five RBIs, and no home homers. Less than a week after Cooper signed with the Red Sox, Dominic Smith emerged as a more dependable first baseman, and Boston is also looking forward to Triston Casas’ return the following week.
The 2022 All-Star might soon play against his old squad if he can carve out a spot with the O’s. The Red Sox will visit Camden Yards in the middle of August to play a four-game series against their foe who is hoping to make the playoffs.
