Breaking: Knicks set to lose their star man to Washington Wizards.
This NBA offseason, the New York Knicks will need to make some difficult choices as they continue to develop around Jalen Brunson. Naturally, signing OG Anunoby to a long-term contract will be the first priority since he is expected to become a free agent. The center position will be yet another point of emphasis.
The Washington Wizards and the Knicks are allegedly in talks over the acquisition of Mitchell Robinson, the starting center, according to Ian Begley of SNY. Begley went on to say that Robinson being dealt during the NBA Draft week would be surprising.
It is therefore not shocking that Mitchell Robinson has been discussed in some of the Knicks’ trade talks with rival clubs (The Wizards are one of the teams with whom the Knicks have had discussions about Robinson). Begley stated, “I’m sure a number of other teams have discussed Robinson, their 26-year-old starting center, with New York.”

Due to an ankle ailment, Robinson, 26, played in just 31 games this season but averaged 5.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Against the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the playoffs, he had surgery on his left ankle. Throughout his career, Robinson has struggled to stay injury-free. In 2022–2023 he played in just 59 games, and in six seasons he has played in at least 65 games just twice.
According to our sources, the Knicks prefer Isaiah Hartenstein over Robinson for the center position in the long run. Several teams, including the Oklahoma City Thunder, have expressed interest in Hartenstein, and he may get offers of up to $100 million this offseason.
According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports on Friday, Hartenstein is “generally expected” to re-sign with New York. But, New York may have to reevaluate its position on dealing Robinson or hunt for another center in a possible transaction if Hartenstein signs with another team during the free agency period.

Considering that the Wizards might effectively address this issue through the NBA Draft, another team might become interested in trading for Robinson. In his continued efforts to stay away from the Atlanta Hawks, there is increasing pressure for Alex Sarr to wind up with Washington using the second overall choice.
There are still a few clubs interested in Robinson, even if the Knicks decide against making a trade with the Wizards. Washington is just one of several potential destinations for New York, which has been actively investigating trade alternatives for their veteran center.

The NBA should pay close attention to Robinson’s abilities as a rim protector, offensive rebounder, and paint finisher. Teams must also contend with his frequent cryptic postings regarding his offensive role.
