Goodnews: Los Angeles Rams quarterback keep making them proud………
Stetson Bennett, the backup quarterback for the Rams, has almost no fan base. But this high roller hits the big time when he plays with house money.
Former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett showed a lot of promise in OTAs and training camp during his rookie debut with the LA Rams, elevating expectations to some degree of natural successor to starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, even though the pressure may have come with being selected in Round 4 of the 2023 NFL Draft. But after being placed on the IR/NFI list and missing the entire 2023 NFL season, the high hopes for the young quarterback have faded to the point where some Rams fans even predict he will be cut this season.
Ironically, it is at that point of lowest hope that Bennett finds his resolve and springs back to life. Stated differently, when the chips are down, second-year quarterback Stetson Bennett is most dangerous. Expectations for Bennett to make a significant impact on this Rams attack are currently lower than they have ever been.
Although the Rams supporters’ reaction to the team’s selection of Stetson Bennett, the 128th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, was, at best, lukewarm, their attitude changed once the team’s performance declined after three preseason games. The supporters had become distant from him by the time the season commenced and the team placed him on the injured reserve/NFI list.
Bennett will always hold a special place in the hearts of Rams fans, even though they say that distance makes the heart grow fonder. While a small number of understanding and optimistic supporters continued to be watchful and unwavering in their support for the young quarterback, the general fan base’s level of support for him fell, with many resorting to hate speech and crude remarks to make up for the lack of accurate information regarding his situation.
However, neither the Rams organization nor the former Georgia quarterback are strangers to the plunge into hopelessness and low expectations. Indeed, Bennett’s best work comes as a surprise. How much did he fall, then?
