ESPN report: Stetson Bennett is having a serious fight towards achieving a bigger role with the Los Angeles Rams.
Fans of both the Los Angeles Rams and the Georgia Bulldogs have been talking a lot about Stetson Bennett since he left the team for personal reasons—we now know that these reasons had to do with his mental health and the need for a break to recuperate and regroup—after the Rams selected Bennett in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Well, Stetson Bennett is now back with the team and has been participating in the team’s offseason activities. As it stands, he is slated as the team’s 3rd string QB behind newly signed Jimmy Garoppolo. However, with Garoppolo sidelined for the first two games due to suspension, the expectation is that Bennett will be the Ram’s backup for those games.
But is he ready for that?
Well, Stetson Bennett is now back with the squad and has been participating in the team’s offseason practices. As it stands, he is set as the team’s 3rd string QB behind newly signed Jimmy Garoppolo. Bennett is expected to be the Rams’ backup during the first two games, though, as Garoppolo was suspended for both games.
Is he prepared for it, though?
The simple fact is that Bennett is practicing and improving with the team; whether he is prepared for any kind of game action won’t be known until the preseason rolls around. “There were some opportunities where Stetson came in – I was really pleased with his overall improvement, his command, like I mentioned, his attention in the meetings, and then when he got his opportunities, whether it was in some 7-on-7 or even in some of the team periods, they’re taking steps in the right direction,” McVay stated.
That being said, whether or not he plays a significant role for the Rams, the cult-like icon that is Stetson Bennett will always be the talk of the town. Furthermore, if Matthew Stafford is sidelined by an injury, the Rams will find it difficult to mount a comeback, no matter who starts at quarterback.
